Why I came to Dubai almost naked

Share:

Well, not exactly naked. But I had like three pairs of clothes in my suitcase. The rest of the space was taken up by my books.

My treasured possessions.

One of my pain points back in Pakistan (other than the rollercoaster ride of living in a third world metropolis) was that I didn’t have as much access to books as I wanted.

A 20-dollar book from Amazon would have an additional 50 dollars of shipping, handling and duties.

And the local bookstores mostly sold only the most popular, mainstream books.

And if you know anything about me so far, it’s probably that my interests are anything but mainstream.

So one of the best things I like about Dubai is a far greater access to bookstores like Amazon and Kinokuniya.

I think I’ve bought as many books since coming here as I’d buy in a whole year back in Karachi.

Because, paraphrasing the great Steven Kotler, the ROI on books is just insane.

The amount of knowledge and wisdom you can absorb from a book is the equivalent of several years, or even a whole lifetime, on the author’s part.

It’s the perfect shortcut to success, I believe.

In fact, it has played a disproportionately big role in my career as a writer, artist, marketer, publisher, animator, speaker, etc.

And I can’t waiting for the day when someone would jealously ask me, “Take off that suit and what are you?” And I would say, “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.”

Or some variation thereof. As my name is not Tony Stark. And I’m married, so the playboy thing is off limits. *Sigh*

Anyway. So I’m working on a witty variation the famous Iron Man line.

Meanwhile, if you think you’re ready for a deeper dive down some serious, practical wisdom from the genius, billionaire, philanthropist in the making, smash the link below with that excited, mighty thumb of yours:https://forms.gle/gJNftN2uQijRyMHr6
